Here’s another page of hate mail, and in the left side bar the story of me finally getting to meet Penn Jillette.

Lemme guess. Jesus.Bob
“there’s more?”

So there’s more?

Jeanine

Yes. Without Jesus is actually more moral & healthier. Pretending an innocent can pay the price for someone else’s wrongs is not justice. It’s crime. And thinking there’s a better world in the grave deludes the importance of this one. That’s two.

There’s way more.

Let me know if you need others.

“mockery of him is a reflection of whats going on with you internally”

Hi Bob,

Actually, I was asking if you had more websites since you weren’t sure which one i was referring to. I can understand your not wanting Jesus, but to attempt a mockery of him is a reflection of whats going on with you internally; that you are bringing out externally. Usually if one feels their life is better off without something then they leave it behind. Although, you say its moral and healthier without Jesus, you make a website to offend knowing that you will attract Christians to it.

Once again this is an internal battle you are manifesting externally. You say one thing but your actions are clearly another.

Where do you “personally” believe you are going after you die? I find you a little hurt but interesting.

Absolutely not.I could see leaving it behind if it had no effect on my life once it was abandon. If Jesus, Christianity & the Bible never reared their ugly heads into my daily life in the USA I would agree with you whole-heartedly. If I was an ex snake handler I could simply walk on my merry way and never look back. Same with if I were an ex Voodoo Doctor, Raelian or Heaven’s Gater. I’d never have to listen to their beliefs being preached at me by strangers, referenced to alter Science, or pried into the laws I’m required to follow. Christianity however isn’t so modest. Thus it is necessary to stand my ground, defend, and sometimes offend to live as an atheist in today’s society.

Much of what I do is providing a landing spot for others who also feel surrounded by a cult that’s constantly attempting to scare, threaten or seduce them and their loved ones. I’ve found that in the last 12 years that I’ve been working on this site, there are thousands upon thousands of people who feel the same way I do.

Where do I think we go after we die? My guess is that it’s the exact same place we were before we were born. I think it’s that simple, and all the other projections are wishful thinking. Why, what do you believe?

I appreciate your interest in what I do!

Bob

“To stand your ground and live your life as an atheist isn’t difficult.”

But Bob… The things that you say you despise, don’t believe in, and reject, are the same things you go out of your way to attract and build your life around. The jesusdressup website is there not so much for those who want to dress up Jesus, but more to offend those who don’t.

When one googles “Jesus” there is your website on the first page. The majority of the masses who look up “Jesus” on the internet are doing so to seek solace and knowledge about Christ. So its sort of like one being on their way to church and you erect your website in the path and then complain that you have to defend and argue all day every day with Christians.

To stand your ground and live your life as an atheist isn’t difficult. That is one of your unalienable rights of living in the USA. People for the most part just want to go along peacefully. Live and let live. But to publicly desecrate and mock Christ in a country where about 75% of its people are Christian is viewed as a personal attack. So why do it? The reason is always deeper than the obvious.

Atheism as you know is the rejection in the belief of deities. But I don’t believe you are a true atheist. There is too much energy there, albeit negative energy.

My girlfriend Marilyn is atheist. Last year her boyfriend committed suicide while she was caring for her sick father, and two weeks later her father passed away. Her life was and still is devastated. She prayed to God asking why, asking for help, no answers came that healed her, so now she hates God and is an atheist.

She attacks me because I do believe. (My older brother was killed a week before her boyfriend died.) God didn’t give me the answers I sought either. She is filled with hate and hurt and is going full force away from God. She has new atheist friends and that’s where she obtains her comfort from.

I’ve seen this more than a few times. True deep devastation in ones life, a call out to Christ with no answer, and then a turn away because they feel abandoned. The surface is masked with many different faces but the wound once uncovered is usually the same. These are the people I feel you also attract to your site under the guise of being atheist. The internal/external struggle and a wound which never properly healed.

So where do I feel I go or what happens when I die? Well, I believe there is an afterlife. Everything is energy so when one dies the energy doesn’t die it just changes form. The body is only there to enclose / house the spirit of each of us. Without the soul / our spirit,  the body is empty. We just get use to looking at the body and contribute that solely to the person, so when one dies there is enormous grief for us left on Earth. But the spirit of the person lives on and moves on to a different realm, that obviously we cant access until we die. Ok. There is much more to write but I’m off to the gym. Have a great night Bob. : )

Jeanine

Whoa whoa, Jeanine. First off, you can’t hold me responsible for Google results. As much as I wish I had that kind of control, Google decides its search results without any consideration to my wants & needs. I believe it’s that high because of the popularity of the site, and the length of time it’s existed (over 12 years). Don’t get me wrong, I’m thrilled that my rating is high, but I have zero control over what Google does. It’s really on the first page of a “Jesus” search? I honestly thought that my run with that ended years ago. *blushes*I feel for anyone who’s lost a loved one and I understand that some find comfort in believing they continue to live forever in paradise. That want does not bewilder me. However, it also doesn’t sway me in the least to believing it’s true. And considering you can’t have heaven without hell, I could easily give you several very convincing reasons why it’s not comforting in the least, but I’ll move on.

If you have a friend who claims to be an atheist but also hates God, that person is not an atheist. This is a common misconception about atheists that I hear from believers. Preachers & pastors love to explain atheism as a hatred of God, like actually not believing doesn’t happen. Saying atheists hate God incorrectly defines their atheism, subsequently severing a path of communication you might hope to have with them. I assure you, Jeanine, my belief in God is identical to my belief in Darth Vader. I don’t hate either because they are both made up characters. Anything you might ascribe to hate in my writing or art comes entirely from my hatred of its teachings.

I’ve no doubt built a life around countering a belief I find harmful. Everyone should spend their time so fully, in my opinion. And I hope that people searching for solace in Jesus stumble across my sites and find a less imaginary way to deal with the serious issues of life, living and death. In my opinion people really have to go out of their way to avoid stumbling across someone offering the Jesus solution, so you shouldn’t worry about all that much.

I don’t think we are the least bit empty without Jesus or pretending we’re an everlasting spirit in a physical body. In fact I don’t see how believing there’s an everlasting life in paradise in the afterlife doesn’t make this one seem less, not more.

I hope I’m answering your questions enough so that at the very least you understand where I’m coming from.

Thanks.

Bob

Petition to shut me down!

Yeah, I know this isn’t the first petition to shut me down, but it’s a catchy headline, and it is for real! You can decide how chilling the news actually is and decide whether or not to sign it considering that a shut-down would bring some fantastic publicity! Also, lots of hate mail to enjoy.

“You live your own life, do what you want. But in my life, I have chosen to write, live, and act in such a way that doesn’t condemn others beliefs, chosen life styles, or cultural differences.”

Hello Bob,

Just ran across your site, by accident I assure you. Your beliefs are your business, mine will remain private. You seem to be a talented writer, and opportunist. You’re site has structure, and is attractive. Everyone as individuals has their opinions on religion, atheism, etc. and you are of course entitled to yours as well.

Now as for your approach to your opinions? There are MANY different avenues to speak your opinions, in an intellectual manner, that would be a softer approach, rather the obviously rude, and offensive display you have right now. Believe what you want, but there is no reason to be hurtful to others in the process.

Also, calling it “Normal Bob’s Ministry” is hypocritical and far fetched. Don’t get me wrong there are many types of normal. But using”Ministry” is far from appropriate. You are trying to dissect, and mocking many religions’ ministries, and yet use the word “ministry” in your website’s seal. Far cry from the reality, isn’t it?

I’m neutral to your “HATE MAIL and FAN MAIL”. Not a fan, and not in anyway trying to tell you that you’re “going to hell”.  You live your own life, do what you want. But in my life, I have chosen to write, live, and act in such a way that doesn’t condemn others beliefs, chosen life styles, or cultural differences. I make mistakes, but I do my best to correct them.

Best Regards,

Teresa Marks

Hello Teresa,It’s good to hear from you, and you’ll be happy to know that you reflect the new, popular thought process that I believe should be next in line for condemnation. At the beginning of 2000 (when this site began) religion still held a tight grasp on the majority, and its claim to fame was numbers. Now, entering into this new decade, the numbers of religious people might be declining, but the new trend is beliefs should not be criticized or joked about. Politeness – The new God.I’ve addressed this many times on my site, but haven’t yet gotten a coherent answer as to the harm caused by ones beliefs being insulted. Or are you simply taking this stance on ultimately protecting everyone from hurt feelings?I think I understand where this is coming from too. We live in a society where the customer is always right, and everybody expects to be met with a smile at the front door, while anything short of that is nipping at the heels of rudeness. I totally get the idea of a business needing to have overly polite employees, and acting neighborly, and common courtesy in public. However, when it comes to the responsibilities we’ve got concerning our own adult beliefs, that only extends so far.I believe that once those “personally held beliefs” begin to impose on my life, then you should expect retort, and (god forbid) hurt feelings. Do your beliefs come to my front door and ask, or in some cases threaten, me to believe them too? Do your beliefs effect what kids are being taught in their schools, or counter the scientific evidence? How about this – Do your beliefs in any way consider other groups of people as lesser, or not as qualified for privileges you yourself deserve? If your answer is Yes to any of these, then I am well within my rights to oppose, and even insult them. You should already be buckled in and prepared for rebuttal and a defense better than “I don’t condemn other people’s beliefs and you shouldn’t either.”

Why should anyone not expect condemnation for a belief system they hold? Why would you fear it in any way, shape or form? Teresa, let me tell you here and now, I know that I am flawed and many of the beliefs I hold might very well be off, so I am ready to have them challenged whenever possible by sound, logical arguments. And if my beliefs can’t stand up to questioning yet I still say “I’m right! You’re wrong!” I certainly expect to be mocked very hurtfully on the public stage. There are many incorrect, illogical, and sometimes dangerous belief systems that’ve seen themselves ostracized by these exact methods. And that’s a good thing! And if you have beliefs that can’t stand up to it, perhaps you need to give them a second and third look too?

In conclusion I ask that you please correct this mistake you’re making in your belief system.

Thank you.

Bob

Always Hate Mail

I know it’s been months since the past page of hate mail, but that’s just how little is trickling in lately. Happily, it’s been good stuff, plus there’s been even more special fan mail to be read in the side bar on the left. I hope it satisfies the longing inside.

Luckally you seem more on the side of being toothlessly insane, then being an actual danger.”

Subject: What is wrong with you?

Are you aware that the vast majority of the US is Christian?  That many Christians are prejudice against atheists?  Are you aware that many Christians view atheists as satanists?  So you dress up as a devil to encourage their outlook and prejudice?  What is wrong with you?  Looking at your site it is like you are a satanist pretending to be atheist.  You give atheists a bad name.  No real self respecting atheist would portray themselves as you do.  You offer nothing, but hate and vindictiveness.  It is like you have a compulsive desire to only find fault with things going on around you. It is like you are totally blind to how many people observe you as a person.  So to compensate for your lack of character you go around attacking others for their personality?

You are without a doubt not even in a league with the most mundane atheist, much less Dawkins, Hitchens, Harris or any of the other greats. You are basically a circus clown. Most definitely you are not a philosopher or intellectual.  You seem to be more interested in inspiring pettiness, selfishness, anger, and pointlessness in the world.  What use is that?  Many atheists are humanists, but no where do I see any sign of that in you.  You don’t seem to be liberal or conservative.  You don’t seem to have any real direction or purpose of any kind.  You don’t really seem to stand for anything other then an empty ideal of atheism, which is worse then Christianity and any other major beliefs.

If being atheist is what you represent, then why would any sane person want to follow in your footsteps?  Do you even recognize that many people join the christian faith to try to better themselves?  Can you even recognize that?  Or why people want that?  Do you even have the slightest idea where the values of Christianity came from?  Do you even have a concept of why morality or ethics is important to the integrity of society?  These are rhetorical questions as obviously you are the worst kind of hypocrite, your web page is glaring evidence of that.  You believe yourself to be logical, but you are more likely insane.

Luckally you seem more on the side of being toothlessly insane, then being an actual danger.  Do you seriously believe that putting normal before your name makes you normal?  You are obviously abnormal and in deep denial.  You obviously can’t see beyond the tip of your own nose. You seem to have no concept of the suffering in the world, much less have any desire to actually make it better.  I don’t think you would even understand why that should be important to people.  You seem to have no concept of the consequences your actions can have.  What point is there in just trying to rile people up?  What is the point in that?

Does anger or hate make the world a better place?  There is nothing worse then a divisive, narcissistic atheist.  You are more of an example of why people need books like the bible, then an example of why we do not.  From what I can see you appear to be self defeating. Your life seems totally pointless.  I mean if you weren’t here I think it would be safe to say that the world would be a better place.  Are you proud of that?  I don’t think you are even capable of really looking in a mirror and facing yourself.  If you could, you wouldn’t behave as you do.  I dare you to post this and respond, Mr. cowardly clown.

Josh Hefner

Who spells “luckily” like that?

Luckally?

Jesus Christ. Have you ever read anything with it spelled that way? I mean, it’s one thing to completely ignore your spellcheck. It’s a whole other to sound it out “luck alley,” probably aloud. Probably with food on your face. I mean, what’s more toothless than “luckally?” Which brings up another point. Have you ever heard of the word “than?”

Do you realize you used “then” 6 times in your letter, but only once was it used correctally? Correctally!

Other than that though, you raise many good points. I will surely take them to heart, because in order for me to grow as an atheist it’s imperative that I take your complaints seriously, then simply let my ego attack your personality.

I hate it whenever I have to inform someone who’s attempting to convert me that my religion requires me to kill them with my own hands for doing so.

It’s made for more than a few extremely awkward silences, just before I plunge a butcher knife into their chest.

Thank you though for the email.

“Shame on you for making fun of MY Lord and Savior!!!”

Are you saved? Because if you were saved, you wouldn’t have a site that makes fun of Jesus… How can you sleep at night when you have a website that makes fun of what Jesus Christ done not only for me but for you as well?!?! Shame on you for making fun of MY Lord and Savior!!! I will be praying for you and your soul…

May God have mercy on your soul,

Sara

Sara, here’s the deal. I’m beyond wasting even a moment more of time worrying about what’s in the afterlife. I’m just done with it. You don’t know. I don’t know. The people who wrote the bible don’t know. No matter who you go to about it, they’re human, which means they don’t know either. And anyone who claims to know, doesn’t. Sorry, but that’s the truth.

Around the world and throughout time we humans have been habitually inventing religions for as long as there’ve been humans. I just watched a video yesterday about another guy who thinks he’s Jesus and has hundreds of followers. This is how easily this stuff is invented.

Not only are people inventing religions, but they’re clambering to believe them, while the rest of us make ridiculous excuses for why it’s okay they do what they do. We’re just pathetic when it comes to weighing out the evidence reasonably when our own mortality is on the line. That there has been the sun & soil for the seeds of cults since the get go.

We’re idiots! We’re fucking idiots scrambling around on a planet floating in endless space, and we feel an overwhelming lack of control over the whole situation. Instead of accepting this lack of control, we bullshit ourselves. We bullshit ourselves and pat each other on the back for the courage it takes to bullshit each other and believe each other’s bullshit story without the grounds for doing so.

We’ve actually brought the action full circle, to the point where we praise people who believe things based on wishful thinking, while cursing those who bring unhappy truths to the light. That’s not fucking punk rock. That, Sara, is whiny suburbs. And I’m done with suburbs.

What you’ve done is hook yourself up to opium drip and drifted into a numb coma of happy thoughts. Meanwhile, for the last 12 years I’ve been immeasurably gratified with life as a critical thinker.

I definitely sympathize with your situation. I have a mother who’s let the wishful thinking take over her life. Now, here in her later years she’s got every reason to enjoy life every hour of every single day, but instead she’s bogged herself down with the world of confusion that comes with devoting your mind to fantasy.

But how does someone tell if they’ve devoted their mind to fantasy? I mean, what’s the difference between my thinking and yours? Ask yourself this:

• If what I believed weren’t true, would I want to know?

If your answer is yes, then you’re on the right track. Anything other than that is the mind cage.

I’m genuinely interested in your response to the question.

Bob
